Hi Debbie, this family IS a challenge!

I didn't find anything for John Thomas Sanders until I found his World War I Draft Reg. card he filled out Sept. 12, 1918. He was living in Creswell, Lane Co; b. 13 May 1875 and working as a laborer for A. Avey, Rt. 1, Freewater-____, OR. His nearest relative was William Elbert Sanderts, Rt 1, Creswell [who I couldn't find in the Censuses]. John was tall & medium build with grey eyes & brown hair.

A John T. Sanders was living in 1920 in Precinct 2, Umatilla, OR. He was b. OR, 44, farm laborer; wife, Edith R., b. OR, 40.

In 1930 John Sanders was living in Cottage Grove, Lane Co., b. OR, 55, retired, married @ 28; wife, Edith, b. OR, 51, married @ 27.

Then as you know John T. Sanders d. Lane Co. 18 April 1959, death cert 4654; spouse=Edith. Source: OR Death Index. You can't get a copy of this from the State until 2009 because of the 50 year rule.

I did find Sylvester E. Rauch was living in 1900 in Coyote, Lane Co. Sylvester b. OR, 28; wife Edith R., 20; Elva G., b. OR June 1896 and Ethel F., b. May 1894, OR.

An Edith Rauch married in Lane Co. 21 Feb. 1911. Source: OR Marriage Index 1906-1920. That was all it showed but presumably she married John Sanders then. I don't know if OR has a 50-year rule for marriage licenses or not.

Maybe you'll find more info about them at Oregon Genelaogical Society & Research Library, www.rootsweb.com/~orlncogs/ogsinfo.htm; Cottage Grove Gen. Society, www.rootsweb.com/~orlane/.

There was a David and Teresa Jane Sanders family who had two daughters Margrett and Mary Bell who in 1880 lived in Spokane, Spokane Co., Wash. Terr. I traced them through several Censuses but didn't find John Thomas.

I found Elva R. Rauch & wife living in 1930 in Walla Walla, Walla Walla Co., WA. Elva b. OR, 34, marr @ 22, engineer & field man steam railway; wife Emily B., b. Canada, 36, immigrated in 1900 and naturalized before 1930, marr @ 24; and Florence Greening, sister-law, b. WA, 18, single.

I did find an Estella L. Livingston who d. 3 March 1977 in Longview, age=85, est. birth abt. 1892, last benefit check mailed to Longview per death cert #004744. Source: WA Death Index.

An Estella Livingston, last benefit check mailed to Longview, Cowlitz Co., WA, b. 22 Dec 1891, d. March 1977. Soc. sec. # assigned in WA in 1966. Source: Social Security Death Index which anyone can access at no charge.

Check out http://www.secstate.wa.gov/library/ask.aspx about how to get a copy of her obituary. They will do research in newspaper microfilm for one hour at no charge.

An Ethel Fra [truncated by State] Kuni died Lane Co., OR 7 May 1979 per death cert 79-07592; age=79, b. 29 May 1899; spouse=Jay. Source: OR Death Index.

An Ethel Kuni last benefit check was mailed to Creswell, Lane Co. Born 29 May 1899 and d. May 1979. Soc. sec. # assigned in Oregon before 1951. Source: SSDI.

I'd try to get a copy of this obit from University of Oregon, http://libweb.uoregon.edu/general/gethelp.html or OR Library System, www.oregonlibraries.net/.

An Ethel Clark, last benefit check mailed to Cottage Grove; b. 23 June 1892; d. Dec. 1976. Soc. sec. # assigned in OR 1953-1954. Source: SSDI. I'd try to get a copy of her obit from above sources. Successful Hunting!
