William A. Smith died at his home in the Liberty district where he has resided for the past 50 years yesterday morning at 11 oíclock. He had been as well as usual up to about noon Tuesday, when he laid down on a lounge apparently to take a nap, which he often did. From this sleep he never awakened. He had a stroke or apoplexy during his sleep and he never regained consciousness.
The funeral will be held tomorrow (Friday) at the Miller chapel at 1:30pm conducted by Rev. D. E. Baker of Eugene. Interment in IOOF cemetery.
William A. Smith was born in Wayne county, Iowa, October 6, 1844, and lacked only a few days of being 83 years of age. He crossed the plains with his parents when 8 years of age and has been a resident of Oregon ever since.

He lived in Linn county for some times previous to settling here. About 50 years ago he came to Lane county and located on the Wilkerson place. In a short time they settled on the place where he lived the remainder of his life, and together they reared a noble family of eleven children, four of who still live on the old home place. They are: Mary Delcina (Mrs. Hultgren). Champ A., Walter L. and Clarence. Another brother, John Washington Smith, lives at Junction City.
The remainder of the children are scattered about and in some cases their addresses are not know. Junction City Times Sept. 22, 1927 Junction City, Oregon
