Alfred E. Maloney Sr., 90, formerly of East Grand Forks, died Monday, Jan. 20, 1997, in Corona, Calif.

Alfred Maloney was born May 8, 1906, the son of Thomas and Carolina (Schultze) Maloney, in Rolla, N.D., where he attended school. He lived in Minneapolis for several years. He then moved to Grand Forks. He married Alice Cameron June 8, 1927, in Grand Forks. They moved to Rolla. In 1930, they returned to Grand Forks, where he owned and operated Maloney's Met Confectionery with Earl Hoffman. He owned and operated Maloney's Cafe, Grand Forks. In 1941, he moved to East Grand Forks, where he owned and operated the Happy Inn Bar. He also owned and operated the Campus Cave at UND. He opened Maloney's Bar in East Grand Forks in 1944. He moved to Crookston, where he owned and operated the Grill Cafe. He worked for the Crookston Municipal Liquor Store. He married Lucille Bolack June 3, 1954, in Billings, Mont. He married Emily Turnbull. He lived in Conrad, Shelby and Dillon, Mont., where he managed the Elks Clubs. He retired in 1977. He moved to Lifecare Nursing Home, Corona, in 1995.

He is survived by sons, Alfred Jr. (Donna), East Grand Forks, Phillip (Nancy), Corona, and Paul, Bismarck; daughters, Mary Flaten, Grand Forks, Jean (Shannon) Ostlie, Fairfield, Mont., and Patricia (Robert) Olson, Las Vegas, Nev.; 20 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Charlotte (Morris) Thomte, Billings.

He was preceded in death by two sons, a great-granddaughter; a brother; and a sister.

Services: Will be held in Shelby, Mont. (Stennes, East Grand Forks).
