Hi Louise, I think finding current descendants is the hardest part of genealogy since the 1930 Census is the most recent one available to the public. I try to find the obituary of the last family member. Then I use to look up current contact info for survivors in the obituary.

Also I contact the genealogy society located where the survivor lives/lived and see if they appear in the local phone book or Polk Directory.

I don't know where you can find photos except family members and maybe local gen. soc's. You have a special challenge too with the Thompson surname. Successful Hunting!
