Hi Kathy: Arthur was a farmer in the 1920 census-but don't let that throw you off. He did not own the farm-it was rented. Crook County hasn't changed much since the turn of the century-it is a bit barren and isolated. Acres and acres of farmland. I'm sure that if he had the opportunity to take the property and try his hand at farming after working as a laundry person he would jump at the chance. I was thinking by your postings that you had access to the census records. Do you? If not, I can try send them as an attachment to an email so you can view it for yourself. It makes a world of difference to me to be able to decipher/interpret the images for myself. The difference on the 1910 for Effie: there wasn't a reference to any children. Now maybe that was a mistake on the part of the enumerator-but which one-the one in 1900 or 1910? We don't know at this point. Anyway, after you get a chance to view the images I think that you will be able to judge for yourself. Also-since this Effie/Ettie died after 1952, you can't send for her death certificate unless you are a direct survivor. But you could post on the Multnomah County forum for an Obit lookup. That will probably have some history about her if there was one. Have you checked in the marriage index yet to see where and when she married? Let me know about the census.
