I found this in the 1860 Census records:
1860 Jackson Parish, Louisiana Census
40 547 547 O'Pry, Joseph 53 M W Farmer 1500 300 AL
1 . . O'Pry, Carloyn 35 F W Domestic . . MS
2 . . O'Pry, William B 16 M W . . . Do
3 . . O'Pry, Andrew J. 14 M W . . . LA
4 . . O'Pry, Dabner 8 M W . . . Do
5 . . O'Pry, Thomas L 4 M W . . . Do
6 . . O'Pry, Henry L 1 M W . . . Do
I didn't find anything on a Melissa. And with Ken's latest letter to find out that William B. is actually a Owens took me by surprise.
I've never been able to flesh out Carolyne family. But here is who I have as her parents and siblings.
Father Howell Prestridge (1792-1860)
Mother: Sarah "Sallie" Bullock (1782-1860)
William M. Prestridge (1810-1903) m. Permilla Caber
John J. Prestridge (ca1815-1899) m. Nancy H. Burge
Unkn Daughter (ca1816-1864) married unknown
Unkn child (male/female?) (ca1820-?)
Julia Ann Prestridge (ca1822-?) m. James H. Stephens
Carolyne Pretridge (our current topic)
Elizbeth Prestridge (ca1827-1864) m. Park Blair Jefferies
James Prestridge (1829-1901) m. Martha Frances Wright
uknown child (male/female?) (ca1840-ca1935)
So you can see there are at least unidentified children. I'm not sure if some of them are male or female. And wonder if perhaps the one that is listed as an unidentified Daugther born about 1816 might have been married to an Owens.
