Hi Bob;

I'm not going to be much help with the Schneider branch although the name does pop up some more in my line (there is a Jonas Schneider married to Catharina Oblinger, daughter of Daniel who is Nicholas II's grandson through Isaac. There are a few other strands from Germany in the 1600's that seem to have some connection, but I don't have much there.
Nicholas II (b.1712 - his father 'Claus' was also Nicholas) was mentioned in Ben Franklin's diary as "the German". This was corrrelated with Franklin's military records where "Uplinger" is mentioned by name. This put him in the thick of things during the French-Indian war. He was probably to old to have an active part in the Revolution, but a few of his sons were. There were also a number who were active in the War of 1812 and the Civil War, too.
The "Oath of Allegiance" is something that I might have to look into.
Hope that helps some. I'll be happy to share what I can.
