Frederick Rudolph Bowman[Bauman] ,merchant naval journal

My gr.gr.gr. grandfather joined the merchant navy at the age of thirteen in 1836. He wrote a journal of his experiences at sea.One which was the envolvement in the Opium Wars.
He was born in Stettin,Prussia in 1823.He wrote little of his personal history in the journal,so I'm having a lot of trouble tracing his family. The only thing of personal history he put in his journal is that his father was a career military soldier, and that his mother died when he was very young. His father remarried a beautiful eighteen year old girl, who severely mistreated him,and that 's what forced him to join the navy at such a young age.He also wrote that he had a younger brother.
He wrote no names or dates[other than his birthdate].
Any help or info would truly be appreciated.
If anyone would like to read the journal,I would be more than happy to send them a translated copy of it.
Thank-you for your time......Beth Metts
