I descend from the Anderson/Opdyke family down several generations through Abigail Anderson and Henry French. Their son Henry Smith French was very friendly with Abraham Lincoln. In HS French's Southern Claims Commission papers, it was stated that Lincoln defended the company,(Kanawha Salt Manufacturers) that French worked for. Looking at the 1850 Springfield census, the family who lived next to Lincoln was S B "OPDYCKE", a merchant born c. 1795 in NJ.
Since Springfield was out of HS French's territory to sell, I am wondering if S B "Opdycke" could be his cousin.
