Onstott Road in Lompoc, CA was named for William Henry "Frank" Onstott.
Frank was descended from John Onstott and Sarah Hood. Col. John Onstott led a Brigade in the Blackhawk War in IL. Their son David Edward Onstott (1804-1891) along with his brother E. Joshua Onstott arrived in Navarro County, TX in 1845. The brothers are listed in the Barksdale's 1845 Peters Colony Roster. They left the colony before receiving a land certificate. It was, of course, that E. Joshua and David migrated below to the Mercer Colony area, where they both obtained certificates for 640 acres. David settled about 20 miles west of Corsicanna, between Battle Creek and the Red River. They were stationed at Fort Graham, a US Army post established in 1849 and closed in 1853.
David Edward Onstott married Elizabeth Williams in MO in 1841. They were parents to 7 children: Thomas Hart Benton, James Lockwood, Joshua Knox Polk, George Washington, Nancy Hood, David Hill and William Riley.
Joshua Knox Polk Onstott, b.11 Aug 1844, Jasper Co, MO, d. 31 Dec 1928 Hamilton, TX; He enlisted in Dresden's Texas Cavalry, Company 1, 19th Texas Cavalry Regiment of Navarro Co., TX. He enlisted 29 June 1864 at Spring Hill at the age of 18. He had a fair complexion, gray eyes and brown hair. He married Nancy Bowman on 1 May 1867 at Navarro Co., TX, b. 26 Nov 1849, d. May 1884, TX. They were parents to 9 children: William Henry "Frank", Annie Marilla, George Washington, Lucy Hood, Wesley Clint; Viola Dale, Nancy Parthenia, Bertha Almeda and Cora Lena (died at birth).
When Nancy Bowman Onstott died in 1884, Joshua remarried. His new wife was Savannah Josephine Braun, b. 1863. They were parents to 7 more children: Leta L.J.; Edward David; Oma B; Tollie; Claude P; Adron and Clifford. The new family lived in Hamilton, TX.
William Henry "Frank" Onstott, b. 15 Oct 1868 at Corsicanna, Navarro Co., TX, d. 4 May 1966 in Orange County, CA, married Lula Mae Beck, b. 17 Dec 1879 near Weston, Collin Co., TX, d. 10 Nov 1979 in Lompoc, Santa Barbara County, CA. They married 18 Oct 1896 at Shire, Hamilton Co., TX. Her father Joseph Robert Beck, b. 23 Mar 1851, d. 25 Oct 1932 and his third wife, Elvira A. Watson (8 Oct 1868-21 Nov 1929) were living in Hamilton at the time of the marriage.
Frank and Lula Onstott purchased a large tract of land on the northern side of the Lompoc Valley in Santa Barbara County. In 1964 two of their grandchildren began developing the land into oak tree studded acre homesites on the mesa over looking the valley. The main street of the development was named Onstott Road. Nearly every street in the development is named in honor of ancestors of the grandchildren - Lewis, Courtney, Beck, Pelham, Stallcup, Shanklin, Chandler etc. The development was named Mesa Oaks.
