William DeForest "Deke" Onn (he never used the William) was my father's cousin. He was born about 1911, probably in either Alta or Cherokee, Iowa.He moved to Centralia, Illinois in the 1930's and did work for the Illinois Central Railroad his entire working life.He was the son of Joseph Onn (born in England about 1869) and Ina Belle Johnson (born in Lee County, Illinois in 1874, died in a Chicago train station in 1939).Deke's wife was Irma Warren, of Centralia, Illinois. They had 3 sons: Joseph, William, and David (I don't know which one was called "Buddy").Deke and Irma retired to Fort Collins, Colorado in the '70's.Deke passed away shortly before Christmas, 2002 at age 91.He was survived by his wife, but I do not know if she is still alive.Unfortunately, I also know nothing of the whereabouts of their sons.It seems they all moved to the far corners, but I vaguely recall that one of them was believed to be in the Fort Collins area.I don't know anything else about "Uncle Joe" Onn, Deke's father, other than that he survived his wife.I only met Deke a few times, but remember him as a friendly man with a low-key, but very funny, sense of humor.
