Looking for information on my O'Neill relations who were sailors from Wexford area of County Wexford in the late 1800's/early 1900's. 1. Thomas O'Neill - b. circa 1820 probably Wexford (occupation listed on son's marriage cert is Boatowner) 2. Michael O'Neill - son of Thomas; b. 1847/48 Wexford listed as Sailor on marriage cert and then as Sea Captain on daughter Catherine's marriage cert. He died before 1895. Michael married Mary Anne Duggan (b 1849/50) also Wexford whose father Matthew Duggan was also listed on marriage cert as Boatowner. It looks like both the Duggan's and O'Neill's both lived on New Street, in the town of Wexford at the time of their children's marriage in 1869. 3. Michael and Mary Anne had Catherine Mary O'Neill (b. Feb 1876 on Trinity Street, in the town of Wexford. She married my great grandfather Henry Young and lived in Dublin until her death in the 1950's. Recently came across "Wexford people with maritime connections in Census of 1901", Wexford Port A History by Nicky Rossiter. Interestingly, it states two O'Neill's living on Trinity Street: 16 William O'Neill, Seafaring 16 Thomas O'Neill (Son), Seafaring and 13 Matt O'Neill, Sea Captain living close by in Maudlintown. Is William O'Neill a brother to my Catherine? Is Matt O'Neill in Maudlintown also her brother? Makes sense since Michael's wife Mary Anne Duggans father was Matthew Duggan and it would have been natural for her to name a son after her father. Family lore has it some of these family members were lost at sea never to have been seen again. Please help with any information! Thanks!! Notify Administrator about this message?
