Denning
Mrs Margaret Denning passed away at the house of her daughter, Mrs Isaac Close, on December 20 at a ripe old age.
The body was taken to the old homestead near Buffalo Prairie where the funeral was held on December 29 by Rev Henry Love of Hamlet.Mrs. B B. Marque and Mrs Jesse Boney sang comforting songs.
Born in Ireland, she started with her father and three sisters on a sailing vesssel for America.While at sea the father became ill and died.The mother had past away some months before.
The little orphan spent her girlhood in Canada and New York City and later came to Rock Island and in 1860 was married to John Hunter Denning.Of the seven children, two daughters, Mrs E. P. Pike of Stromsburg, Nebraska, and Mrs Isaac Close of near Aledo, and two sons James E of Joy and C. B. of Buffalo Prairie survive.
As a child she was reared in the Catholic faith and while thown among people of other beliefs, she always adhered to the religion of her childhood.
She had a happy disposition, was an interesting conversationalist and always saw good in others. She lives in lives "made better by her living".
