North Eastern Poland Town Names-Shivarki, Sukoly?
My maternal grandparents, Klemens and Karolina Olszewski (anglicized to Olseski) came to Bethlehem Pennsylvania from Poland in 1902, at which time they were 22 and 23 years old respectively. My grandmother's maiden name was Lapinska. The Ellis Island records show that they were from the Polish town of Shivarki (sp?), Sukoly (sp?), Lomza.I suspect that the spellings of Shivarki and Sukoly are both phonetic--especially since their family name was misspelled on the manifest, and have been unable to find the towns / villages on present day Poland maps.I would appreciate any information any readers might have that could be helpful.
