Sorry, I have no idea why Roman was imprisoned or changed his name, although he may have been trying to distance himself from the Olszewski name because I don't think anyone ever heard from him once he left home.My dad was the youngest and so a lot of the other siblings were grown and had families of their own or had left home by the time he was born so he didn't know them well.He stayed close with Peter, George, Agnes and Evelyn and only vaguely remembered the oldest ones from childhood.I recall looking on Ancestry.com a few years ago and seeing the census, some draft records, etc. and I think it showed that Michael and 2 or 3 of the oldest boys working at the same factory in Chicago.
I know so little I guess because my dad was 55 yrs old when I was born and so by the time I was old enough to be interested in family history and ask questions, his memory was not the best.
Have you checked St. Adalbert's under Malikoska? Not sure if the plots I remember seeing were her family's or Michael's.I could take a ride over there in the next week or so and look at the names on there if need be.There is a photograph that my sister may have a copy of showing Michael and some of the grown children on what would have been their 40th or 50th wedding anniversary but Annie had passed away shortly before it.
I wish I could be of more help - Have you tried Facebook for some Olszewski family members in Illinois?Or, Ancestry.com?
