George Olson of Chicago (August Olson & Sofia Swanson)
I'm not related to the Olson family in any way, but a number of years ago I ran across a cassette tape in a box I bought at an auction. On that tape was an hour long interview with one George Olson of Chicago, whom a cousin had interviewed on Thanksgiving of 1981. I digitized the recording and would be happy to share it with anyone doing Olson family research.
From a brief listening of the tape:
- George Olson was born in 1895 in Chicago, Illinois.
- Many of his grandparents and parents generations came over from Sweden before he was born.
- His grandmother's last name was Swanson (Svenson).
- He had an aunt named Alma (the interviewer's grandmother.)
- Also Uncle Charles, his father [August], Aunt Louise, Aunt Augusta (who married & moved to Minnesota?)
From a quick search on familyweb, I turned up a George Olson born 27 May 1895 whose parents were [Au]Gust Olson and Sofia Swanson. I'm guessing it's a match.
It's quite an interesting recording of the old guy. He talks about a lot of people in his family, where they were living (down to the street), where they were working, etc. A real wealth of information.
Anyone interested, just email me at the address in my profile and I will make the material available for download. (Note: I don't check that email every day.)
