Olson/Sorensen Chicago Area
Help!Am trying to locate any information regarding two sisters traveling from Stockholm, Sweden through Ellis Island about 1895.These two sisters, Anna Elida ? and Alma Elida ? were sponsored by elder siblings around the Chicago area. The siblings were Hilda (an opera singer), Inga and sister-in law Betsy.Betsy was a mid-wife married to the sisters' brother, Ole. Ole farmed somewhere around Selma or Mobile Alabama, or perhaps Georgia.Betsy hated the warmer climate and stayed in the Chicago area. The family was from the island of Gotland, the town of Hedje is mentioned.Upon entering the US they either had their named changed to Olson, or the language barrier caused the change.Due to a fire in Hedje, we are unable to find out what the original name was.Anna married Nels Christian Sorensen August 9, 1909 in Chicago. They had 5 children, 4 daughters and one son, my father, Earl. Alma married John Olson. John and Alma had two sons, Henry and John. Anna is my paternal grandmother. Her DOB is Oct. 11, 1882; DOD Sept.7,1971. Although her death certificate lists a SS#, she is NOT listed in the SS index. She spent all of her time in the US in the Chicago, Northern Illinois areas.
I would appreciate any information.
Thanks.
