I understood what you were seeking. I guess I didn't make my post clear enough. Sometimes you have to approach these things in a less direct route. That is how I accomplished finding my dad's half sisters after my dad died. I didn't even know they existed. I found a half aunt who connected us.
Ok, so with Elton's info I found that his last residence was Milwaukee, Milwaukee, Wisconsin....so then he was the one from MN based on other info. There were at least 2 Elton Olsons born about the same time. The other one that I found was in ND.
So, if I am on the right track, you can look for an obituary for Elton in Milwaukee and perhaps that will give you the location of the survivors if you don't know where your family was at the time. It may not find your father, but one of your uncles or granduncles/aunts. If you can make contact with at least one family member, you may be able to make the connection you seek. It is a long shot but it may be your only choice. Try posting http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=an&p=localities.northam.usa.states.wisconsin.counties.milwaukeehttp://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=an&p=localities.northam.usa.states.wisconsin.counties.milwaukee or you may have to write to a library if you can't find a volunteer. The local Milwaukee library will look it up, sometimes for a couple of bucks. If the obit doesn't mention what you need, contact the funeral parlor for the work sheet.
You could also try to look at the probate records. That would tell you about survivors.
The Elton I found in 1930 had a brother Arnold B., and sisters Elenora and Melinda. Again, I am assuming these are yours based on what you gave me. Arnold was b. about 1914, Elenora abt. 1917 and Melinda abt. 1922. They could still be alive.
Sorry to be so long winded but these are just suggestions if someone doesn't come forward with the info. It is tough with such a common nam - Olson. At least Elton was a unique name.
Have you tried calling all the Virgil Olsons? That's a lot of work but if you could narrow down the state, that would limit a lot.
Good Luck
