O'Loughlin Family Genealogy Forum
Catherine O'Laughlin Brugh, 90, spent the first 20 years of married life as a military wife. Her husband of 56 years, Robert G. Brugh Jr. (Colonel, US Retired), prior to his death, took her around the world with him on his military assignments. It was during that time they had nine children, two in Chicago, two in Caracas, four at Ft. Benning, GA, and one in Livorno, Italy. She was the consummate military wife, always supporting him as his career continued to rise. Her strength made it possible for the family to move effortlessly from assignment to assignment. When they retired to River Forest, their family was passing through the local schools and Catherine worked effortlessly to provide the support her large family need. Her love and support will be sorely missed by her children as well as 19 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Her quick sense of humor is often remembered by her family and anecdotes seem to be endless. When Catherine and Bob were truly empty-nesters, they moved to Briarwood and then Graue Mill, where she lived until her death. She was a parishioner at St. Isaac Jogues until her health no longer allowed her to attend Mass, but continued to be a weekly communicant through the generosity of her kind neighbor. Catherine passed away August 15, the Feast of the Assumption, how fitting for the mother of a large family. Funeral arrangements were private. Catherine is survived by Susan (William) Murges, Robert (Pearl Cash), Jency Miller, Patrick (Susan Peters), Mary Gonena, Jane (John) Cesario, Timothy, Heidi, Dennis (Tammy). Memorials appreciated to Respiratory Health Association of Chicago, Donation Dept., 1440 W. Washington Blvd., Chicago, IL 60607. Arrangements by Gibbons Elliston Funeral Home, Hinsdale. 630-323-0275.
