hi Malcolm,
am merely following up on this difficult name to find its origin. I have come across the widow Mary Ollerhead being granted a lease in 1787 on Ollerhead's Tenement at Cholmondeley, some 12 miles south east of Chester. A Timothy Ollerhead is listed in 1713 in the same place, followed by a young richard. He might be the Richard Ollerhead, sherriff, and later elected an alderman of Chester in c. 1761.A John O. is a tanner in Chester in 1704. Robert O. is a member of the Merchants company of Chester in 1613, and referred to as a hatmaker in 1614. Another Robert Ollerhead is a Chester feltmaker – material for hats – in 1660, dying in 1678. Nicholas Ollerhead is recorded as dying in 1709, an almsman of the city.
There is a widow Sarah Ollerhead of Berrington, a few miles south of Shrewsbury in 1746, who owned property.
There is a widow Jane Ollerhead of Ormskirk mentioned in 1742, and a John Ollerhead nearby at Marton Mere in 1719/20. A William O. is a wine merchant there in 1714, called a gentleman.
Later we have James Ollerhead as a trustee of the Wrexham Benefit Building society.
There might be an origin from Holyhead in Anglesey, as its written as Hollyhead in the 18th century.
