Hi Sharon,
I don't any particulars about your great-grandfather, but it's a pretty safe bet that his ancestral home was in Derbyshire County in the English Midlands. I also don't know how much you know about teh Ollerenshaw family history, so you may well be familiar with all this. As far as I can tell the Ollerenshaws sprang from the Parish of Hope in Derbyshire. There was a fairly large contingent in Glossop, a cotton and paper mill town, in the mid-1800s. The city of Manchester attracted a fair number too. Dame Kathleen Ollerenshaw (mathematician) was the Lord Mayor of Manchester some years back and Anthony Burgess mentions "Ollerenshaw the butcher" in his novel The Pianoplayers, set in Manchester. My Grandfather, John Jack, Came from 31 Crosse Cliffe Farm, Glossop, Derbyshire about 90 years ago and settled in southern Ontario.
I found a lot of information by just typing the name Ollerenshaw into a search engine. That's how I found your query.
Best of luck,
John Ollerenshaw
