The correct name is John Wesley Oliver and his wife was Elsie Duvall. He was the father of Samuel Oliver who married Sophia Warden, daughter of John Warden and Elenor Wolgamott. I don't know how much you want on this family as our family has researched for 58 years. My mother is responsible for the Elsie DeVoe mistake. Don't pursue it. I'm a great grand daughter also of Samuel and Sophia Oliver through their daughter Elsie Oliver. I'd be interested in knowing where you fit in on the family tree.
Samuel was a Civil War veteran, and served for over three years, enlisting at age 19. His father, John Wesley Oliver, married Elsie Duvall in Darke Co., Ohio using the name Wesley. They went to Indiana and then to Missouri where Elsie died about 1863. John Wesley remarried to Irena Hunt, a widow, going back to Randolph Co., Indiana to marry her. John Wesley Oliver was the son of Samuel Oliver and Jane Wigfield. My grandmother who knew him told us that John Wesley was born in Butler Co., Penn. We have found in a Butler Co. history book the name of Jane Wigfield who married a Samuel Oliver, so I am fairly confident that this is the right Samuel Oliver. I also have the Duvall line.
