Oliver Surname Y-DNA Project

The Oliver Y-DNA project was initiated last September. To date, 24 participants have ordered test kits and 21 kits have been returned. Two kits are in transit. We are eagerly awaiting several sets of results. I invite you to check the project web site at <> to view the current results posted there.
We have one large cluster of results representing an extended Oliver family known from traditional genealogical research but for which many details are lacking. 37 marker tests have been ordered for each of these with the expectation that we can then observe fine structure within the extended family.
We have two other participants who match 25/25 and whose ancestors are known to have lived in the same neighborhood but for which genealogical research has yet to identify a common ancestor.
A third pair matches 34/37. Their ancestors both lived or passed through NJ. Traditional genealogical research is continuing.
In addition, test kits have been ordered for descendents of a man believed to have been a brother of Shadrack Oliver of Bertie Co., NC.
The remainder of the results fail to match but we're all hoping that as more folks join and as traditional genealogical research continues, we'll see matches for them in the future.
I'd urge all Oliver researchers to view the results and seriously consider becoming a participant. Only male Olivers with an uninterrupted line of descent from an earlier Oliver male can take the Y-DNA test but we have many women who have sponsored their fathers, brothers or male Oliver cousins.
