Michelle,
I've had a hard time responding to you because your e-mail is hidden and I was unable to post a message, but finally I got it figured out. Yes, my gr-grandfather was George Bradley Oliver married to Eliza Gordon Rowan. He was in the Civil War, Company K, 19th Mississippi Infantry. I guess he was into a lot of trades. He was a liquor retailer for a while, he bought and sold hides, and when he moved to Alamogordo, NM he had a men's dry goods store which he sold to my grandfather, Frank Rowan Oliver.Mother tells me that her uncle Clifford had a Bible that had Elijah's wife as Mary Kirkendall. However, this uncle is dead and she doesn't have any contact with any of his children or grandchildren so she doesn't know what happened to the Bible.
George and Eliza owned a hotel in MS- maybe in Baldwyn and later they had a hotel in Roswell, New Mexico. They had 14 children but 4 died at birth. I do have pictures and some documents my mother has collected that I can copy for you.I will need an address. I have corresponded with Elizabeth Palmer and plan to make some copies for her. George died June 3, 1929 at Hotel Dieu, El Paso, TX and is buried in Alamogordo, NM Eliza died at her home on NY Avenue in Alamogordo on Sept. 13, 1939 and is also buried in Alamogordo.
Elizabeth has documentation about Mary Kuykendall - it's quite possible that whoever made the entry in the Bible didn't know how she spelled her name. I am 66 yrs. old and my mother is 86 in case you are interested. My address is 2311 Don Felipe SW, Albuquerque, NM, 87105. Mom lives at 1341 Jeanette SW,same town, state and zip.
What kind of business are you starting?
