Cassius’s wife (“Maria F.” in the obit) was Maria F. Shorey. You can find Maria’s obituary online at the Abbott Library website: www.abbott-library.com/obitsAccording to the Maine marriage archives, they were married 6 April, 1898 (her obit. says 1899…), presumably in Dexter.
Cassius had two siblings: Estelle and Alberta.Estelle married James Gordon.Alberta “died” according to family notes, so I assume that means died at a young age.
Cassius & Maria’s daughter Velma lived in Orono (typo in the obit or your e-mail), Maine, and was the housemother of Delta Zeta sorority at the University of Maine, Orono, for many years.
For Cassius, Jr., my notes have the middle initial “F.” not “L.” as the obit says.I have his birth and death dates as: 15 Oct 1917, 7 Aug 1992.
Going back to the generation of Cassius’s father, William, he was one of seven children:
John S. (b. 18 July 1829, England)
Elizabeth (b. circa 1834, Garland)
Sophronia G. (b. 24 Jan, 1836, ME)
Thomas (b. circa 1837, ME)
Sarah (b. circa 1842, ME)
William
James
Their parents, William (Sr.) and Sarah Oliver came to Maine from England in 1832, according to my family's notes.Supposedly they landed in Eastport, Maine, although I do not have any confirmation of this, and then went to the Garland/Dexter area.
