McDaniel Oliver, Georgia 1860
Need help determining from which McDaniel OLIVER I am descended (through Sarah Oliver Odom). Two McDaniels of roughly the same age (4 years difference) lived in Burke Co and Screven Co in the 1850s and 60s.My sister, now deceased, appears to have mixed the two men together and I'm just not sure which one is my great-great-grandfather.
Is it the Burke Co McDaniel b. ca 1823 who married Lucy Bolton and had several children including Samantha age 1 in 1860 census?OR is it the Screven Co McDaniel b. 11 April 1820 who married Sarah A. Freeman and had daughter "S.A" age 4 in 1860 census?Screven McDaniel listed in 1860 as "Mac G. Oliver".
Screven County McDaniel appears to be the McDaniel Oliver who enlisted in CSA (Co D, 47th Georgia Volunteers) in 1862 not the Burke Co McDaniel.
My sister had our great-grandmother Sarah Oliver's name as Sarah S. (presumably Samantha) and DOB as 30 June 1859 (souce of DOB unknown). This points to Burke County McDaniel. On the other hand, Sarah, who married Benjamin Franklin ODOM of Burke Co, appears in the 1880 Burke Co federal census as age 23 (DOB more consistent with little "S.A." than with "Samantha", but of course it could be an enumeration error).Sarah died in 1898 when my grandmother was only four years old.
If anyone can unravel this for me, I'd appreciate it.Thanks.
