When visiting Lisaboa, I chatted with a local who, upon hearing my name said "Oh, when the Jews settle in a new place they often name themselves after some kind of tree..." I often wonder if my dear, late, devout Catholic 'Vovo' would have been able to accept that, or if she had some knowledge. Years later, we found her husband's birth certificate; it seems that the Azores (San Miguel) is the starting point for this Oliveira line also, and (Al)Fred a popular name--my Dad's as well. Greetings, distant cousins!
