Dear Cherie, I am pleased that we have the same family. I have some of the siblings. I do not use gedcom. files. I use xls. spreadsheets and make family trees. I am happy to send you all that I have on this family. The other Oliphants in the area using the name Francis, were not the shipowners as I had thought. It was the last Lord Oliphant, whose brother, William, had been apprenticed to a shipowner in Kirkcaldy (right beside Dysart). Their line however, became extinct in 1748. Clearly, there is a lot more about Dysart than we currently know. Although fairly costly looking at each, there are about eight wills and inventories for Francis Oliphants, listed in Scotlandspeople.gov.uk four of which are the bakers in Edinburgh (this family). I would like to find more living members of this family. We are also running a Y chromosome DNA project, so if we can find a male of this family, then we might be able to match them to a known branch of the family, which would answer the question of where they originate from. Finally, it has perplexed me that so many, seemingly unconnected Oliphant families, should move to Lasswade. Similarly, many moved to Newington. Why? Yours aye, Roddy.
