Dear John,

I am wrong on the chronology but there is still something strange about this. Was the James (born circa 1810) and and Melville (born circa 1835) father and son? I ask the question for the simple reason that, according to the 1880 census, the 1835 Melville was born in Scotland. In other words, if father and son, then James was Scottish. Is there evidence that your Melville's father is called James?

Yours aye,

Roddy.
