Dear Daniel,

I just wanted to drop you a line to clarify a few points. Firstly, there was never an Earl Oliphant. There have been numerous Lords Oliphant. They were the chiefly line. Because of complicated issues, there is no Lord Oliphant any more. Strictly speaking, the chief, I think, owns the tartan, though nobody worries at all about it.

In order to know more about your family, I need you to tell me as much as you know, please.
