I am trying to locate family members of Robert W Oleson. He was reported MIA then later KIA on 9/27/1944. He was a Waist Gunner on a B-24 piloted by Roy E Bolin. My first cousin was Charles E Weatherly Engineer/Top Turret Gunner and also KIA in this ill fated mission. I have recently learned what happened. They were in one of the most disastrous air battles of WWII, known as the Kassel Mission. Of 34 B-24 bombers only 4 bombers survived. 9 men crews per plane. Please go to kasselmission.com to verify what I have written.
If you have any information or can help find information about Robert W Oleson please call Don Lum 435-820-4128 or Linda Dewey 231-642-0742,Linda is president of the Kassel Mission Historical Society.
On 08/01/2010 in Germany there will be a memorial to honor the men who fought and died in the Kassel Mission air battle, relatives of these men are welcome.
