Thanks, Brian. You've really put this in perspective!
I can see the possibility of three generations. I guess we'll just have to delve in further to find more bits and pieces.
Thanks for sending!
I have the following information on Bethia (Martin) Olds, wife of George Olds: "Mrs. Bethia Olds of Newport, RI and now resident of Rehoboth, MA and Jonathan Martin [her brother], of Warwick , RI, warned to depart out of Rehoboth, MA 1719/20." [Town Meeting Book 2, pg 49].
No mention of George and no mention of any children they might have had.
They were married March 13, 1718 in the Trinity Church in Newport, RI, according to church records. 2 years later, where was he?????
In case you didn't know, "Warned to depart" means they did not have papers from previous town in which they lived stating that the previous town would support these people, and Rehoboth didn't want to support them either.
So I'm thinking this was a poor family.
I can't find anything on her brother,Jonathan Martin, nor another brother, George Martin, and their mother, widow, Sarah Martin.
When the father, Bartholomew Martin, died in 1712, Jonathan and George were minors (I believe they were under age 14).
This might suggest the mother was still young enough to remarry.
Keep me posted on anything you find. I'll do the same.
Thanks again.
Joyce in NY
