OLDS in Newport, RI 1719, link to James OULD/OLDS of nearby Attleborough, MA??

The OLDS line I'm researching is immigrant to CT Robert OLD >> Jonathan OLD(S) >> Seth OLDS, so I really only I know what I'm posting here. Just connected the post about Newport to something I've noticed in my searching that I followed up on a little bit...

I think there might be a connection between this OLDS in Newport, RI in 1719 and the James OULD/OLDS first found in Attleboro/Attleborough, MA in 1744. James then moved to Ashford, CT by around 1750 and was there for 30+ years after that.

There has been a lot of guessing that James OULD/OLDS was a son of immigrant Robert OLD's son Ebenezer. Most of this probably stems from the fact that the "Olds Family in England and America..." book suggested this. Based on the info we have access to, there doesn't seem to be any basis for this.

-- There are records of children for Ebenezer in Suffield, but no James is shown (or Sarah - see below).

-- Neither Attleborough, where James first shows up, nor Ashford, CT where he lived later are anywhere near where Robert OLD lived (Suffield, CT), or near where any of his children or grandchildren are known to have settled or lived.

-- Maybe tied in to this is a record on the LDS IGI that an unknown male surnamed "OULDE" married a Sarah HOLMES from either Rehoboth, MA --or-- Newport, RI ca. 1684-1690 in Newport, RI. Rehoboth is right next to Attleborough.

-- Also of note, James OULD/OLDS first child was a daughter named "Bethiah" -- maybe a connection to the Bethiah who married George OLDS? Could that be his mother??

-- Besides James (who is given as OWLS and OULD), also in the Attleborough VR is a 1746 marriage intention for a "Sary OWLS" of Attleborough to a guy from Norton, MA. If you then go to the Norton, MA VR, you find the name given as "Sarah OLDS". Common sense would tell you that this Sarah and James might very well be siblings.

To summarize, we have:
1. unknown "OULDE" marrying in Newport, RI late 1680's (to a girl from either Newport or Rehoboth)
2. "George OLDS" marrying in Newport in 1718.
3. James OWLS/OULD and Sarah OWLS/OULD marrying 1744 and 1746 in Attleborough, MA

The timing seems to be right on for them to be three generations of a family. It's just fishing, but it was something I noticed and I thought one of you researching James OULD/OLDS might find it curious.

Brian
