I wonder if this is the William Oldfield, son of George Oldfield and Temperance Cory Shepard? If so, he had a sister Polly (evidently a/k/a Mary)Oldfield, born about 1783 in Vernon Twp. Sussex Co., NJ or Orange Co., NY; she m. Eli Kelsey in Ontario Co., NY in 1801. In the 1830s she m. 2 John Pierce. It is possible she either married him or he died in the area of Cincinnati which makes William's home in Portsmouth, OH rather interesting. I do not know who this Pierce is.
Both the parents evidently were married before and each had children. I do not know anything about George Oldfield's wife. Temperance's husband evidently was Abraham Shepard who died at the Battle of Minisink. An Abraham Oldfield sold land to Abraham Shepard in Orange Co., NY about 1762. Shepard died in 1779. He and wife had a number of children. One was daughter Mary Shepard(this is strange, if Temperance and George also named a daughter Mary) who married Willis Pearce and they were my 3g grandparents. I cannot go farther back than Willis and his brother Jonathan at this time. They lived with the Oldfields (Jono was married too, but I don't know to whom) til George died in Ontario Co. about Dec. 1804.
Do you know if there were any Pierce/Pearce families around William Oldfield in Portsmouth?
