Charles Oldaker - Tasmania
I don't know if anyone is interested in the above gentleman, but if so I think there is a mystery about him.According to all accounts he left England for Tasmania in Oct. 1850 with second wife Emma, and children from a first marriage to Henrietta Shepherd who was born in the East Indies about 1810.However, I have found Henrietta on the 1851 census as a visitor aged 40 in Knightsbridge, London visiting a Mary Lomax. It distinctly says born in East Indies and the age is right, so I think the chances of there being two of them is a bit slim! Was he a bigamist, or was there a divorce which I think is a bit unlikely?Anyone out there who can clear this mystery up?Also, if anyone is interested, son Reginald born 1832 did not go to Tasmania but stayed in England.I also cannot find Charles and Henrietta on the 1841 census.I have tracked down the children, but no sign of mum and dad.
