June,

I don't know how much help can be. Chauncey's grandfather, Chancellor Olcott, was the brother of Samuel Olcott (who's line is mine). I can send you some basic info. on Chancellor, his wife and children, and Chauncey. But you may have that already.

I don't have anything on Earl. But I know that "Janet" was adopted.

If you haven't come across it yet, you might want to get your hands on a book written by his wife, Rita Olcott (Margaret (Rita) O'Donovan). It is called "SONG IN HIS HEART," and was published in 1939.

You can ask your local library to "inter-library loan" it for you. That's the way I got hold of it. I've also seen copies of it available in the past (to purchase it) on Bibliofind.com on the internet.

I have nothing about Earl. I don't remember him being mentioned in the book, but perhaps he was. However, a "Janet" is referred to in Rita's book and I have a newspaper clipping written shortly after her death.

I no longr live in Calif., but was born and raised there. The article (society page stuff), my grandmother clipped and saved from a California paper-probably from the San Francisco area. Unfortunately, it's not dated, but from the contents it was after 1938. It refers to Rita Olcott's death and there is some information on daughter, Janet.

If you are interested, send me your address and I'll gladly send you a copy.

If you check ebay periodically under "Olcott" you can sometimes find colored post cards of Chauncey; his summer home in Saratoga, NY called "Inniscarra;" as well as sheet music for sale; and sometimes pictures of him.

But if you are interested in his life, do try to get hold of the book I mentioned.

Linda Wells
