It appears that John Olander came through Ellis Island at least 3 times: (1) 1900 (2) August 22, 1906 (age 27) and (3) September 7, 1909 (age 31). In 1906 & 1909 he sailed on the ship Carmania - departing from Liverpool, England. Residences listed (2) South Main Street in Waterbury, Conneticut with Uncle Edward Lundblod and (3) 286 N College Ave. Grand Rapids, Michigan. On record for 1909 it lists 1900 and 1906 as other times arriving in US.
On 1906 ship's manifest he is listed as a carpenter in 1909 listed as a tailor. Sister and brother of his wife, Olivia, are traveling with him in 1909. Olivia is in Grand Rapids - John's listed destination. On Ellis Island records Olivia Olander arrived on the S.S. Caronia, August 21, 1907 out of Liverpool, UK to Grand Rapids. Olivia's brother's - address is listed as 286 N. College Ave. Grand Rapids, MI
John's sister, Elin, also came to America. Ellis Island records indicate Elin Olander arrived at Ellis Island October 16, 1908 aboard the ship S.S. Mauretania (23 years old). She appears to be with a friend Huldar Norrmann also from Fransta, a seamstress, who is going to see Elin's brother John. The ship departed from Liverpool England. Elin is listed as going to a friend (Gustaf Lindskog) 4196 Ave N Chicago. On this ship's log Elin is listed as having been in US in 1904 - perhaps came with brother Carl although no record of his arrival has been found.
What happened to Elin? - family stories indicate she died young in Sweden of consumption. What happened to Olivia? - family stories say she and John divorced (no children?). John married Abigail Marie Hall in 1915 in Ashland Wisconsin
