I have a copy of the book refered to about col John Okey. I also have photo of the house he built and lived in at Brogborough in Bedfordshire, before it was burnt down.
My family name was Okey before a one Alexander Oakey, moved to Alvescot in Oxfordshire England in 1804, he came from Bibury and when he was at Bibury he was Okey, as he could not read or write, then the vicar had to spell his name as best he could when he had children. hence the change to Oakey. I have the whole of my family back to 1770 and details of the William who was transported to Australia. I will get round to putting it on the web sometime. you can see some photos of some old Oakey of Alvescot on my village web site at also other villages in this area on
