Secret Connecticut 1900 marriage? Please help me to find out!

Hi, I wonder can anyone help me clear up a mystery? Bridget O'Keefe died in April 1899, 9 days after giving birth to twins (one of whom was my grandmother). This left her husband Cornelius with 6 children and a hotel/saloon to run on 2nd Avenue, West Haven I think. He brought the children back to Wales in 1902/3, and subsequently married Bridget's sister Catherine, but we've always wondered how he coped until then. The 1900 CT Census has given me an answer of sorts - Katy A. is listed as Cornelius's wife, but was she? And when did they marry? What happened to her - did she die in childbirth as well, or did she stay in CT? Can anyone please help?! Teresa Bettridge
