I am hoping for assistance in finding more about the O'Kane family of my wife and sons. They came to the United States from Coolcoscreaghan, Brockaghboy and Ballerin in Co. Derry. My wife, Molly (O'Kane) Tew, and I were in Dungiven on July 8, 2009 and were able to find and see the birth/baptism record for her great grandfather, Daniel O'Kane in the records of St. Mary's church in Ballerin (THANK YOU Father Brady!). Daniel O'Kane was born January 19, 1856 in Brockaghboy, Errigal Parish, Co. Derry and died in 1908 in New York we believe. He married Catherine Smith daughter of Edward Smith and Alice O'Neil. She was born in 1855 and died in 1916. They had six children we know of: Daniel J. O'Kane Sr. (my wife's grandfather) born 1889 in New York; Edward b. 1879 d. 1880; Hugh b. 1884 d. 1886; Hugh b. 1886 d. 1888; James b. 1890; and John b. 1894 d. 1905.

Daniel O'Kane was the son of Hugh O'Kane who was born in 1805 in Coolcoscreaghan. Hugh's wife and Daniel's mother was was Susan Hegarty born in 1814 (died 1889). Hugh and Susan (Hegarty) O'Kane had four other known children besides Daniel and all are said to have been born in Brockaghboy: Ann b. May 31, 1857; Martha b. 1858 d. 1911; Michael b. May 3, 1863 and a child b. March 20, 1867 d. March 20, 1867.

I would greatly appreciate any information or assistance in finding more about the lineage of Hugh O'Kane and his son Daniel. Thank you!
