I'm searching for information about my great-grandparents, John Benjamin Franklin (Ben) Valentine and Mary Jane (Jane) Phillips Valentine, and their extended families during their lives in Ellis Co. TX. Here's what I know so far:
1. Ben and Jane were married in Waxahachie, Ellis Co TX on 26 Jun 1903.
2. Ben was born on 12 Feb 1883 in Shreveport, Caddo Parish LA, the son of William John Valentine and Isabelle Bannister. It's unknown whether William and Isabelle were living in the Ellis Co TX area at the time of Ben and Jane's wedding.
3. Jane was born on 2 Feb 1882 in Water Valley, Yalobusha Co MS, the daughter of P.F. Phillips and Frances (Fannie) Scott. The Phillips family had lived in Galveston (they're listed in the June 1900 US census there) and were caught in the great hurricane of September 1900--Jane's brother John and his family died in the storm surge there. According to family history, the Phillips (PF, Fannie, Beulah, Jessie and Jane) immediately moved thereafter to the Waxahachie area, where PF and Jessie worked in the cotton gins.
4. Ben and Jane had their first two children, Hazel and Luther (Pete) while they lived in the Waxahachie area. Their third child, Helen, was born in 1908 in Dill City, OK and their remaining seven children were born in Washita Co OK. Ben and Jane died and are buried in OK; Ben in Sayre-Doxey cemetery in Sayre, Beckham Co. and Jane in Cloud Chief cemetery in Cloud Chief, Washita Co.
5. There is a possibility that some of Ben's siblings and their families also lived in the Waxahachie area during the same period as Ben and Jane. Ben had two brothers: Samuel Houston Valentine and George Valentine, and three sisters: Maggie Valentine Aleson, Lena Valentine Black and Lena Valentine (unknown if she was married).
6. According to an old family letter written by George Valentine's second wife, Ben and George's sister, Maggie Valentine Aleson, is buried somewhere in or near Waxahachie. Another family researcher has information that Maggie was poisoned by her husband, Charley Aleson, and that he went to prison for his murder of Maggie. I don't have any dates for Maggie's life and death and I haven't been able to locate the cemetery of her burial location so far.
7. Lena Valentine, one of Ben's sisters, married Ed Black. I have no details about Lena or Ed.
8. According to the 1910 US census record for William and Isabelle Valentine in Washita Co OK, one of their granddaughters, Ada Davis, was living with them, along with son George. Ada is listed as being age 12 and born in TX. This record suggests that Ada's mother is one of the daughters of William and Isabelle Valentine, probably Lena, who married a Davis and possibly lived in Ellis Co. around 1898. I don't have access to the 1900 US census for Ellis Co., so I don't know if it shows Valentines, Aleson, Black and Davis entries that would match up with my ancestors and their extended families.
Any information or leads about my Valentine and Phillips ancestors and the related Aleson, Black, and Davis families during their lives in and around Ellis Co TX would be appreciated. Sometimes the Valentines would spell their surname as Volentine, so their records might show that alternative spelling.
