SKELETAL REMAINS FOUND IN COUNTY
Skeletal remains were found south of the Kansas State line near old Highway 75 Tuesday morning, according to Sheriff Glenn Codding.Sheriff Codding said he and Undersheriff Jim Eppler were called to the scene by the Caney (KS) Police Department about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. The remains were found about 1.1 mile south of the state line on old Highway 75 and about 75 feet west.
Sheriff Codding said the skeletal remains were clad in men's clothing and a cowboy boot. The remains were lodged under driftwood in knee-deep water,Codding said.Assisted by their deputies, Codding and Eppler processed the remains and sent them to the state medical examiner's office in Tulsa for further investigation.
There are no missing person reports outstanding in Washington County, Sheriff Codding said Tuesday afternoon.
The remains were first discovered by a construction worker removing the old Santa Fe railroad tracks south of the state line.He contacted the Caney Police Depatment and advised them of the location.Sheriff Codding said no age or size of the victim could be determined at the scene.
This unidentified male is buried as "John Doe" in Block 6, Lot 83 A, Space 2 in White Rose Cemetery in Bartlesville.Information from the funeral home said that the only items found on the body were plastic packets of shot gun shells and a railroad pass card with no name on the card. Was he a former railroad employee ??
Anyone with any information, please respond to this post.
White Rose Cemetery would like to have a name instead of "John Doe".We are working with the Oklahoma State Medical Examiner's Office in Tulsa to try to find more information as well as the Washington County Sheriff's office.
