Thomas Marian Higgins on 1910 census Roland Town
Posted by: Joal Perteet (ID *****3296) Date: August 29, 2004 at 12:16:15

Thomas Higgins was the grandfather of my husband. He died in late 1910 leaving a wife named Mary Jane and 2 small daughters. The census shows that he was an inspector of railroad ties and that he was born in N.C. Am looking for any information that I can find regarding this family prior to 1910. In addition, who would be the employer of a railroad tie inspector? Would it be a railroad or a manufacturer? What railroads were there in 1910 and what manufacturers were there? Any info that is provided will be truly appreciated. Thank you.
Joal
