BERT WILLIAM GARLAND STRANGE OF SEMINOLE, OK. WAS BORN 6-3-1906 AND DIED 7-18-1982.
BERT RAISED REGISTERED QUARTER HORSES ON HIS RANCH "THE LAZY ES" NORTH WEST OF SEMINOLE.

BERT WAS A PRACTICING VETERINARIAN.

THE SON OF SAMUEL LURS STRANGE AND SAMANTHA GABRIEL NIXON-STRANGE BORN IN TEXAS IN 1906.
THE FAMILY MOVED TO WICHITA CO. TEXAS FROM MARTLING, MARSHALL COUNTY, AL.
SAMUEL LURS STRANGE, BERTS FATHER HAD BEEN A RIVERBOAT PILOT ON THE TENNESSEE RIVER IN ALABAMA AND OWNED A FARM WHERE HIS WIFE AND YOUNGER CHILDREN LIVED.

BERT WAS THE GRANDSON OF CAPTAIN WILLIAM BERRY STRANGE CSA, WHO RETURNED FROM THE CIVIL WAR AND BECAME A BAPTIST MINISTER IN MARTLING, AL FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE.

BERT'S BLOOD LINE GOES BACK TO THE LE'STRANGE FAMILY IN ENGLAND, AND TO WILLIAM THE CONQUERER YEAR 1047 WHEN THE VIKINGS INVADED ENGLAND. A LE'STRANGE MALE (THE ORGINAL NAME WAS, 'EXTRANEOUS' ) WAS AT THE SIDE OF WILLIAM IN THE INVASION AND WAS REWARED WITH 3000 ACRES AND A CASTLE AT HUNSTANTON, ENGLAND.
THE ENGLISH CALLED THEM LE'STRANGE OR THE STRANGERS.

HIS BLOOD LINE INCLUDES MANY KNIGHTS, LORDS, AND ONE WILLIAM STRANGE, WHO ATTENDED KING HENRY V111'S WEDDING TO ANNE BOLYNE.
AN ELIZABETH STRANGE MARRIED KING STEPHEN OF HUNGARY.
THE LORDS STANLEY AND LORD DELAWARR WERE ALSO IN HIS BLOODLINE.
BERT IS A DIRECT DECENDANT OF ALEXANDER STRANGE, WHO CAME TO VIRGINA IN THE 1600'S FROM ENGLAND. HE WAS A TOBACCO PLANTER.
THE STRANGE FAMILY RECORDS EXIST FROM 1689 IN THE ST. PETERS PARISH VESTRY RECORDS, NEW KENT COUNTY, VA.
THIS IS THE SAME CHURCH THE DANDRIDGE FAMILY ATTENDED, WHERE GEORGE AND MARTHA (DANDRIDGE) WASHINGTON WERE MARRIED.

THE GRANDSON OF ALEXANDER (CAPT. AMOS STRANGE, REV.WAR SOLDIER) MIGRATED TO SPARTANBURG, S.C. HE MARRIED FRANCES BAILEY AN IRISH LASS.
THE SON OF CAPTAIN AMOS, AMOS BRADFORD STRANGE (CSA) MIGRATED TO MARSHALL COUNTY, AL. ABT. 1850.
OTHER SON WILLIAM BRADFORD OF AMOS & FRANCES MIGRATED TO CHATTOOGNA CO. GEORGIA.

BERT'S MOTHER SAMANTHA GABRIEL NIXON-STRANGE WAS THE DAUGHTER OF JOHN B. NIXON, (CSA) OF DEKALB CO. AL. (FORMERLY OF GA. & N.C.) HE WAS A METHODIST MINISTER.

HER MATERNAL G-FATHER ISAAC CHILDRESS OF DEKALB CO. AL. WAS ALSO A METHODIST MINISTER, AS WAS HER BROTHER JOHN B. NIXON, JR.
THE VITAL RECORDS OF ALABAMA EVIDENCE MANY RECORDS OF
MARRIAGES PREFORMED BY WM. BERRY STRANGE, JOHN B. NIXON AND ISAAC CHILDRESS.

BERT GREW-UP IN TEXAS AND BECAME A VETERNARIAN IN HIS YOUNG YEARS AT THE KING RANCHES. IT WAS THERE HE LEARNED TO 'COWBOY' AND ENTERED RODEO'S, WINNING CALF ROPING CONTEST.
IT IS RECORDED HE PURCHASED A HORSE & SADDLE FROM THE RANCH AND LEARNED TO ROPE FROM THE OLD COWBOYS ON THE RANCH.

HE LATER PURCHASED HIM AN INDIAN MOTORCYCLE AND A NEW MODEL A FORD.

IN 1933 HE CAME INTO JEFFERSON COUNTY, OK. TO CHECK ON HIS FATHER'S FARM (HIS DAD FARMED ON BOTH SIDES OF THE RED RIVER, TEXAS & OKLAHOMA).

THERE HE MET AND MARRIED FRANCES W. WALL ON 3-1-1933.

FRANCES WAS THE DAUGHTER OF SIMON ADLER WALL & SARAH LENORA KING-WALL OF COMANCHE, OK. FORMERLY OF BATESVILLE, AR., WHERE SIMON'S FATHER "GRANDISON M. WALL" HAD FOUNDED "WALLS FERRY" AR. IN 1851. (GRANDISON WAS ALSO A FORMER C.S.A. SOLDIER)
THE WALL FAMILY CAME TO MARYLAND IN THE 1600'S FROM PRESTON, LANCASHIRE, ENGLAND. THE FIRST USA IMMIGRANT, THOMAS WALL AND WIFE MARY HAD 4 SONS.
FRANCES'S LINE OF WALLS DECENT FROM SON JOSHUA WALL,
B: 1655.
JOSHUA MIGRATED TO N.C. AND TO VIRGINIA. HE WAS THE FATHER OF 3 SONS, JOSHUA, JOSEPH AND THOMAS.
HIS SON JOSEPH'S LINE STARTED THE BAPTIST CHURCHES IN AMITE MISSISSIPPI AND A LARGE CLAN OF WALL'S IN THE SOUTHERN STATES OF GEORGIA, LOUISIANA AND FLORIDA.

FRANCES DECENDS FROM JOSHUA JR.S LINE WHO'S DECENDANTS STAYED IN VIRINGIA UNTIL 1814 WHEN MAJOR WALL AND WIFE MARY ELIZABETH JAMES-WALL MIGRATED TO TENNESSEE.
MAJORS FATHER, JOSHUA WALL,111, MIGRATED WITH HIS 2ND WIFE PERMELLIA RICHARDSON TO LINCOLN CO. TENN. IN 1817.
AFTER THE DEATH OF HIS FATHER MAJOR WALL IN 1851 IN MAURY CO. TENNESSEE, GRANDISON M. WALL MIGRATED TO BATESVILLE, AR. WHERE HIS BROTHERS AND SISTERS HAD GONE AHEAD OF HIM.
WILLIAM 'ARTHUR' KING THE FATHER OF SARAH LENORA (NORA) OWNED THE FIRST COTTON GIN IN BATESVILLE PLUS SEVERAL OTHER BUSINESSE'S. ( GROCERIES) WM ARTHUR'S FATHER WILLIAM RUFUS KING, CSA SOLDIER OF PANOLA CO. MS. WAS KILLED IN THE BATTLE OF ATLANTA. WM. ARTHUR WAS MOVED TO ARKANSAS WHEN HIS MOTHER REMARRIED JEFFERSON SEATON AFTER THE WAR.
THE SIMON WALL FAMILY MOVED FROM WALLS FERRY, AR. AFTER THE DEATH OF BOTH PARENTS TO HUNT COUNTY TEXAS IN 1906, AND TO JEFFERSON COUNTY, OK. IN 1923.
FRANCES ATTENDED FIRST GRADE IN WAURIKA, OK.

IN OKLAHOMA BERT CONTINUED WITH HIS VETINARIAN WORK, LATER FARMED SOME AND IN THE EARLY 1940'S BEGAN A CONSTRUCTION COMPANY.
MOVING FROM OKLA. IN THE EARLY 1940'S TO BAKERSFIELD, CA.
THERE HE OWNED A CONSTRUCTION CO.
HE CONTRACTED TO BUILD THE BARRACKS AND HANGERS AT WHAT IS NOW EDWARDS A.F. BASE.
AFTER THE COMPLETION OF THE HANGERS & BARRACKS, BERT DROVE OVER TO PHOENIX TO CHECK THE CONSTRUCTION BUSINESS OUT.
HE DID NOT LIKE THE UNIONS IN CALIF.
BEING THE TEXAN HE WAS, HE DID NOT LIKE SOMEONE TELLING HIM WHAT HE COULD TO DO.
IN DECEMBER 1945 BERT AND FRANCES MOVED FROM BAKERSFIELD, CA. TO CASA GRANDE, ARIZONA. (AZ. WAS A NON-UNION STATE)
IN ARIZONA BERT BOUGHT SEVERAL VACANT STREETS AND BEGAN BUILDING HOUSE AFTER HOUSE FOR SOLDIERS COMING HOME FROM WAR WITH NO PLACE TO LIVE.
AT THAT TIME THE POPULATION OF C.G. WAS ABT. 2000 AND MOST OF THE HOUSES WERE ADOBE, WITH DIRT FLOORS. A FEW OLD CLAPBOARD THAT HAD BEEN MOVED IN BY TRUCK.
BERTS HOUSES WERE CONCRETE BLOCK OR BRICK.
IN THE NEXT YEARS BERT BUILT MANY HOUSES AND BUSINESS'S, ALL OVER THE CASA GRANDE VALLEY.
IN THE MANY SURROUNDING TOWNS HE BUILT HOUSES,BANKS, RESTURANTS AND SERVICE STATIONS.
"HE PUT UP BUILDINGS".
IN 1956 WHILE ON VACATION IN OKLAHOMA BERT PURCHASED A RANCH IN THE SHAWNEE AREA AND LATER THE ONE AT SEMINOLE.
RETURNING TO ARIZONA HE SOLD HIS BUSINESSE'S. BY THIS TIME HE HAD ALSO EXPANDED INTO THE CUSTOM FARMING AND TRUCKING BUSINESSES.

IN OKLAHOMA HE RESUMED HIS VETERNARIAN PRACTICE AND WAS OFFERED A TEACHING JOB AT STILLWATER,OKLAHOMA IN VETERNARIAN MEDICINE. HE DECLINED.

ON HIS RANCH HE RAISED THE LEO AND BAR'S BLOOD LINE OF RACING QUARTER HORSES. SOME OF THE PLACES HIS HORSES RACED WAS RIODOSA, N.M., LOUISIANA DOWNS AND TURF PARADISE IN PHOENIX, AZ.

BERT WAS ALWAYS A LOVER OF HORSES...IT WAS OFTEN SAID, "HE NEVER SAW A HORSE HE DIDN'T LIKE.

IN ARIZONA HE ALWAYS HAD SOME BOARDED OUT SOMEPLACE. HE RODE IN PARADES WITH GENE AUTRY, REX ALLEN, AND ONE OF HIS BEST FRIENDS, CASA GRANDE'S EARLE THODE.(WORLD CHAMPION COWBOY)
IN SHAWNEE BERT & FRANCES FORMED A TRAIL CLUB FOR YOUNG RIDERS IN THE AREA.
THEY JUDGED AT HORSE SHOWS AND PARTICIPATED IN THE EVENTS, THEY WON MANY BLUE RIBBONS FOR THEIR HORSES.

BERT WAS A LIFE MEMBER OF THE AMERICAN QUARTER HORSE ASSN.
THE APPOLOOSA ASSN AND THE PAINT HORSE ASSN.

IN EARLY 1982, BERT A 50 YEAR SMOKER OF CAMEL CIGARETTE'S WAS DIAGNOSED WITH ESOPHOGUS & LUNG CANCER. HE REFUSED ALL TREATMENT AND DIED 7-18-1982. HE LOVED TO FISH AND HUNT AND SPENT THE LAST DAYS OF HIS LIFE IN THESE ACTIVITIES.

BERT WAS OF THE BAPTIST FAITH. HE DID NOT ATTEND CHURCH REGULARY BUT LIVED HIS LIFE BY WHAT HE BELIEVED. HE WAS KIND AND FORGIVING, HE NEVER CRITIZED OR BAD MOUTHED ANOTHER MAN AND GAVE FREELY TO THOSE IN NEED. HIS PHILOSOPHY WAS YOU WOULD NEVER GET TO HEAVEN JUST BY GOING TO CHURCH BUT, YOU MUST LIVE IT AND HELP YOUR FELLOW MAN. HE PRACTICED THIS ALL HIS LIFE.

FRANCES & BERT WERE MARRIED JUST SHORT OF 50 YEARS THEY WERE THE PARENTS OF FOUR DAUGHTERS, ELISA J. (VON RICE) PHX. AZ. 2/24/1934, NORA GAY (MILLWEE) MIDWEST CITY, OK., 9-13-1935, DOTSIE FAY (HALL),SHAWNEE & MONTGOMERY, AL. 6-30-1938 AND BERTIE ELIZABETH,(CARTY) SHAWNEE & TEXAS 1-22-1940.
HE WAS THE GRANDFATHER OF ELDON R. SMITH, DR. KURT G. VON RICE, LISA CARTY-MILLS, RHONDA CARTY-LINDSAY, KELLI HALL-MURRAY AND DEBRA HALL-BAXLEY.
