Jan, just wanted to make a few additional comments about your message that begins with the "Known" facts regarding Barnet Morrison.
According to Barnet Clyde Moore, grandson of the younger (1873-1854) Barnet Morrison, he moved to Fairfax after the death of his first wife and prior to marriage to the second. It is believed that his father, Barnet Morrison (1827-190?) was already deceased.
Keeping in mind all that has been read regarding family lore, this is what I have been told about the older Barnet Morrison's participation in the Cherokee Strip Land Run:
It appears that all was ready - fast horse, etc. - but the older Barnet became ill the night before the Run, so his son, the younger Barnet (who was the oldest son with the family but still underage) made the run in his father's place. A site was found, staked out, and the family actually began to settle there. One day someone unrelated to the family came bearing papers that proved his ownersip of the claim on which the Morrison family had begun to settle. All appeared to be in order and the family had to leave. It seems this 'legal' owner had overheard the younger Barnet bragging about his participation in the Run . . . he was underage at the time of the Run. The new owner filed on the property prior to Barnet Morrison doing so.
That is the further family story regarding the run and may explain why the older Barnet Morrison had no title to land.
It appears, Jan, that you have certainly exhausted all sources in Pawnee County and have gone way beyond my original intentions. You have truly done the research of a professional.
