I am trying to research a SIKES family from Lincoln County, Tennessee, from about 1815 until 1865. According to the 1820 through 1850 census records I have the following family
living in Fayetteville District, Lincoln County, Tennessee:
Howell SIKES b.1785 NC machinist (Northampton County, NC)
Hannah SIKES b.1785 NC
Singleton SIKES b.1817 TN (Lincoln County, TN)
Margaret (HILTON) SIKES b.1815 TN
among many other offspring
Ambrose Lee SIKES b.1848 TN (Lincoln County, TN)
Nancy Van (POWELL) SIKES b.1854 (Maury County, TN)
among many other offspring
George Lee SIKES b.1874 TN (Obion County, TN)
Emma Lee (WICKER) SIKES b.1885 (Obion County, TN)
among many other offspring
Glenn Daniel SIKES b.1909 OK (Pawnee County, OK)
Margaret C. (LOWRY) SIKES b.1913 NB (Douglas County, NB)
also living in Lincoln County, Tennessee near the above:
Jessee SIKES b.1790 NC farmer (Northampton County, NC)
Catherine SIKES b. 1795 NC
James SIKES b.1810 NC farmer (Northampton County, NC)
Lydia SIKES b. 1795 NC (Northampton County, NC)
Nancy (SIKES) BUNN b. 1790 NC (Northampton County, NC)
I believe this family moved through Maury and Rutherford Counties into Obion County, TN, by late 1860's. Both Singleton and Ambrose L. SIKES raise large families near Troy until the mid 1880's, when Singleton and his wife die and Ambrose and his family move on into Stone County, MO and finally into Pawnee County, OK by the early 1900's.
