In Miami City Directory of 1923 which includes surrounding towns, I found the following:
Hurst, Rosella E. (widow A. H.) Janitor H S [high school] r [residence] 105 N. Cedar [Commerce]
Hurst, Roy hlper King Jack Pub. Co. r 105 N Cedar.
Also listed a Harry D. Hurst, wife Margaret, miner r 124 N Cedar in Commerce.
I checked a few years of the succeeding directories but neither Rosella nor Roy were listed.
In Miami News-Record indexes I found Rose Ella (Mrs. Ava) death in issue of 18 Jan 1966 page 3 column 1
Newpaper microfilm for early years in Miami are scanty and I found nothing for Ava Hurst's death in 1917.
There were a few other Hursts in Ottawa County and a couple of Parkhursts.
I found a number of Hursts in books for Cherokee County KS, directly north of Ottawa Co OK. Of interest to you might be Ethan Allen Hurst 1856-1936 and George H. Hurst 1859-1912 [cemetery listing] and William H. Hurst, no dates, Indian Scouts Veteran, buried in Messer Cemetery and William H. Hurst, no dates, Indian Scouts U.S. Volunteers, buried in Crocker Cem. Do you know of any Indian ancestry in the Hurst Family?
If I can be of any help, let me know. Betty Pulley
