I have an old photo that shows a bldg under construction. On the back is written;"The old Colcord building in Oklahoma City, So. Robinson & Grand ave. William Mitchell Mead standing on the top. He helped build the building but has been torn down many years ago. Year unknown." Well, I was in OKC this past June for a family re-union. I happened upon the Colcord Hotel at Robinson & Sheridan. I have several questions: 1. Would the Colcord Hotel be a later construction? Other articles indicate it was opened in 1910-11. 2. The locations don't match, unless Grand Ave later became Sheridan. 3. In 1910 my Grandfather, the man shown at the top of the building, would have been only 15 years old, not usually an age for working on tall buildings. 4. This building appears to have at least 15 stories, the Colcord Hotel is said to have 12. Now, I must say that my grandfather worked on many buildings in OKC including this and Capitol Hill High School, and it was his custom to get a photo of himself and coworkers on the job. My great-grandfather also worked on many of these buildings, and may have brought along some cheap labor. Hoping this is of interest, and that someone might shed light on the questions. Gerald W.
