I've done a little more looking for your Darcy.

John C Darcy of Carroll Co, MO died during the Civil War. From information on the Missouri State Archives web site:

John C. Dorey/Dorsey, private in Co. K of the 23rd Missouri Volunteer Infantry. He enlisted Dec 18, 1861 in Carrollton, MO, and died Sep 22, 1862 of disease at Macon, GA while a prisoner of war.

His widow applied for a pension and also applied for benefits for her children. The pension file might clear up as to whether your J M Darcy was her son. There may also be guardianship records in Carroll Co that would list the children.

John C Dorsey of Co. K 23 MO Inf.
Widow: America N. Hays, applied May 20 1892? in MO, appl# 551406, cert# 347354
Minor: R.P. Scott, Gdn., applied Jun 27 1866?, appl# 128899, cert# 113617?

I found another marriage record in Carroll Co, MO for a Darcy. On Feb 27, 1853 Matilda Darcy married Robert Crocket. She may be a sister to John C. Darcy. Matilda died May 18, 1914 in Lawrence Co, MO. You can view her death certificate on the Missouri State Archives Website. It says Matilda Rose Crockett was born Dec 15, 1833 in Carrollton, MO. Her parents are listed as Patrick Darcy born in Ireland and Matilda R. Stanley born unknown.
