Childress/Childers

William M Childress married Pernice Sweeton in Tippah County, MS 1867. They had 12 children with only 6 surviving in 1900. They are: Unknown Female (1870), Nancy E. (1875, my g grand) Andrew (1882) Author (1880) Walter (1889) and Dora (1886). The Unknown and Nancy were born in MS. However it is believed that the others were born near Searcy, AR maybe even in Beebe. I have found a William M Childress there on the tax roll to support this. This would have been the years 1880-85.

Between 1870 and 1893 there is a void of Census information. I did find this family again in the Choctaw records of 1893-1900. They appear again on the census in 1900. I have found several other Childress who moved from Tippah to Oklahoma taking the Searcy route but have been unable to make any links between them.

The 1850 Census in Marshall County records a John (father) Ellen (mother) William (son, b 1838) and John F (son, 1843. Does anyone know who they are?

In the 1870 Census Marshall County there is a Martin Childress/Childers and Pernicous Childress/Childers. They are my gg grands.

In the 1890's they moved to Oklahoma. THey lived in the Red Oak area and then scattered to other places OKlahoma.
